What is the Child Tax Credit?
The Child Tax Credit (CTC) helps American families with the cost of raising kids. Families are eligible for up to $3,600 for each child under 6 years old and $3,000 for each child between 6 and 17 years old.
How can I get Child Tax Credit money?
Even though tax season is over, families can still apply to receive the Child Tax Credit, even if you have low income, no income, or don’t normally file taxes. To apply for the funds, visit GetCTC.org before November 15, 2022.

The CTC is worth up to $3,600 per child under 6 years old and $3,000 for each child between ages 6 and 17.
At GetCTC.org, families can also apply for the 3rd pandemic stimulus payment, up to $1,400 per household member (adults and children).

You can apply for the Child Tax Credit if you care for a child who was 17 or younger on December 31, 2021. Babies born after this date are also eligible.
To apply, the children you care for must have Social Security numbers, but parents and guardians do NOT need a Social Security number to apply.
The child can be your child, grandchild, stepchild or adopted child; younger sibling, step-sibling, half-sibling, or their descendent; or a foster child placed with you by a government agency.
The child must live with you in the U.S. for more than half the year.
If you don’t usually file taxes or have no income, you can still use apply for the Child Tax Credit.

It is free to apply for the Child Tax Credit, and you can still apply even though tax season is over. You can apply even if you have no income or you don’t normally file taxes.
Families who earn less than $12,550 if filing single, or $25,100 if filing married, can use GetCTC.org to apply for the Child Tax Credit before mid-November 2022. The application takes about 15 minutes and is easier than filing a full tax return.
For families who earn more, or if you want to apply for additional money through the Earned Income Tax Credit and other state credits, use GetYourRefund.org to apply for the by October 1, 2022.

The Child Tax Credit is not a loan. You do not have to pay the money back.
The Child Tax Credit does not count as income. Getting the money won’t affect SNAP, WIC, Medicaid or other public benefits.
